Drivers Information Screen (DIS)
The DIS in this vehicle is all digital and configurable. Wow, a digital DIS in this class, that in itself is awesome! The 3D graphics on the DIS are superb, bar none. The digital speedometer and tach look analogue. It’s really quite incredible. The DIS is basically the same as we find in Hyundai’s 2021 Genesis G80 but with a few less options. One of the most outstanding features in the DIS are the Blind Spot cameras. If you turn on your left indicator, the speedometer turns into a video monitor showing you the view that feeds from the camera underneath the drivers mirror, hence your Blind Spot. If you turn on the right indicator, then the tach turns into a video monitor that feeds off course of the camera underneath the passenger side outside mirror. I think that set up is brilliant. Honda had something similar on the Civic, but the infotainment screen was the monitor and it only worked for the right turn signal, not the left. Top that off with changing where the monitor shows up is, I think, fantastic. It is right on the side where you would normally be looking if you're turning that direction. It really is a fantastic dashboard!
Infotainment System
The screen is 10.25” and has Apple Car Play, Android Auto (both are a wired connection), Bluetooth, AM/FM,Sirius XM and built in Navigation. You can also hook into your Google Home device and remote start your car from your house just by talking. It does have a 4G LTE WIFI hotspot as well.
The audio system is a 12 speaker 630 Watt Harmon Kardon, and sounds impressive. The display is a touch display and is very responsive, in terms of how long something takes to display, after you have touched an icon on the screen. Now this system is chucked for of items you can customize, and I would highly recommend you watch our “How To” video above if you want to see all the things it can do, and how to do them. For my purposes here let me just highlight a couple of the features. I already mention ed how quick the response time was, but it’s worth mentioning again. It has a very quick response time. The second thing I like is the Favorites button because you can not only save media to favorites like radio stations, but you can also program other features as favorites like commonly used navigation points amongst other things. The third thing I think is worth mentioning are the built in sounds like rain, people walking in the snow, birds chirping etc…. Now you maybe are thinking that thats sort of frivolous, why would anyone use that. But there are plenty of times I have been tired of music and audio books especially on a long drive, and I just wish I could have some background noise. So I really liked that feature.
There are a couple of things I hope they will change on the next software upgrade. For one, I wish they had put a dial station by number keypad option in for AM and FM. Sirius XM has that ability right on the screen but for some reason AM/FM do not. The last thing I hope they upgrade is making it easier (less steps) when using Bluetooth to find categories and albums. Right now you have click on several different buttons to do that. However, those are all things one can adapt to fairly easily. Overall, the 2021 Santa Fe DIS and Infotainment systems are excellent.
