Drivers Information Screen (DIS)
The DIS in this vehicle is all digital and configurable. It is a 10.25” screen and the graphics are fantastic. The tach and speedo have a very analog look to them. It is the same screen we find in the Genesis GV80, The G80, and the Santa Fe. Excellent DIS. In terms of customization, you can customize the appearance of the gauges only by switching Drive Modes, but the middle of the screen does give plenty of choices of information for the vehicle. The one thing that I really wish had been on this DIS was the turn signal monitors, which on other Hyundai models will show up in the tach and speedo, depending on which direction you are turning.
The bulk of the information in the DIS is found under the Settings Icon, and from that menu, you can access all sorts of information about the car, and make/change those settings, from door locks, to Smart Cruise Control settings.
The Smart Cruise Control is on of the great options on this vehicle. Smart Cruise allows the car to read speed limit signs, and if Smart Cruise is engaged, it will automatically bring your vehicle speed up or down depending on the speed limit posted on the sign. The great thing about it is that you can turn that system off, but still have Dynamic Radar Cruise Control on, which still allows the car to maintain a safe distance between you and other vehicles and it adjusts automatically. If you don’t like that feature, you can turn that off as well, and just use standard cruise control, like we had in the 80’s. When using Smart Cruise, you can program the car to adjust the actual speed to up to +5mph over the posted speed limit all the way down to -5mph under the posted speed limit.
Now the thing to be aware of, is all of these systems relay on the camera to capture the posted speed limit sign, and depending on the car, sometimes it reads the sign quite a ways away, and allows the car to slow down to the posted speed limit by the time you reach the sign, while others do not change until you are right at the sign. This would mean if your on a rural highway, going through a small town, your Smart Cruise may not change from 55mph - to 30mph, until you pass the 30mph speed limit sign, meaning you enter town driving 25mph over the posted speed limit. So test it out.
I did not have a chance on this particular vehicle to test this feature out, but I have on other vehicles from other manufacturers and sen the results stated above. All I’m saying is if your going to use Smart Cruise, then be Smart and test it out prior to setting your cruise to Smart all the time.
The Infotainment system is an 8” screen, and had 8 speakers and is a Bose Premium sound system. It has (wired) Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, WiFi Hot Spot (4G LTE), Sirius XM, AM/FM and Bluetooth. One of my favorite (no pun intended) things about Hyundais, is their programable Favorite and Mode buttons. There is one Favorite button on the steering wheel, and one on the Infotainment Screen, and both are separate things and can be programed to do different things, kind of like a shortcut to something. The Mode button on the steering wheel can be programed to do multiple things and it’s function is to help you switch through different media modes/sources. So if you do not use AM radio, or you don’t use Sirius XM, you can take them out of the Mode button, and when you click the Mode button, those two items will not show up as sources, which I think is slick. My other favorite thing is that you can customize the icons that appear on the bottom of the infotainment screen. You can change the order of their appearance so things you use most commonly are located closest to you, making them easier to reach.
All in all this was a very impressive vehicle and I was very impressed at how much technology was included.
