2021 Corvette C8
This week Two Guys And A Ride got the chance to review the 2021 Corvette C8’s Drivers Information Screen and the Infotainment System for our YouTube Channel Two Guys And A Ride.
Drivers Information Screen
Ok so this was a fun one for us to do, it’s not often I get to sit in a brand new 2021 Corvette C8 and just spend time playing with all the tech on it.
So the Drivers Information Screen is 12” as measured diagonally and is fully digital and configurable with loads of available information to display.
The quickest way to change the look of the screen is rotate through the Drive Modes as each one has its own set up. On the right hand side of the screen is where you will find all the traditional types of information drivers use such as Phone, Audio, Navigation, Trip Info, Performance, Maintenance, Options (includes HUD controls, Display Design-where you can customize the digital display, Info Tile Selection- for the right side of the drivers informations screen, speed warning etc).
The left side of the screen contains more engine related and race info. You can select which tiles (or pieces of information( you wish to have displayed at any given time, but if you go into Sport Plus Drive mode, here you get four tiles of information on the left side, and you can customize what displays in each of the four areas, which really allows the driver to customize the information they want to see. You can even customize which tile the information appears in - top left, top right, bottom left or bottom right.
One of the more interesting and unique features is that you can memorize up to 1000 GPS points where you want your Corvette to raise and then lower the nose of your car so you don’t scrape it on a speed bump or driveway entrance. To engage this requires pushing the lift button down below the infotainment screen, but as soon as you tap it, a message will appear in the Drivers Information Screen asking if you wish to memorize this location, and you can do so with a simple click of the rotary wheel on the right side of the steering wheel. If you do, the next time you approach this area, the nose of the car will automatically lift and then about 50 feet past that point it will automatically lower it again. Pretty awesome!
All of this is controlled by the buttons on the right side of the steering wheel. The system is well laid out, and fairly easy to learn.
The Infotainment System
The Infotainment System has an 8” touch screen and includes AM, FM, and Sirius XM Radio, Navigation, Bluetooth, a 4G LTE Wifi Hotspot, Wireless Apple CarPlay and Wireless Android Auto. The audio is provided by a 14 speaker Bose Premium Sound System.
Now the Infotainment screen is a System 3 and basically provides the same interface and options that you would find in any modern GM vehicle with two exceptions.
The first exception is the ability to use the front cameras to record a drive and overlay driving statistics such as speed, RPM, G-Force etc over the video. Once recorded you can view those files right there on the Infotainment system, or you can transfer them to your computer if you want to. All the data is recorded onto an SD card, so I would recommend that you get one with at least 128 GB of storage.
The second exception is that you can program the cameras on the car to act as monitors, meaning, if your car is parked and something bumps it, it will take pictures right away using all the cameras on board, and save them for you to view. Hopefully you’ll get the license plate number of whomever hit you.
Overall its a great combination of technology that allows you to get all the info you need for driving, and it allows you (the Drivers Information Screen) to customize how that looks.
