2021 Volkswagen Passat R Line

This week Two Guys And A Ride got the chance to review the 2021 Volkswagen Passat R Line Drivers Information Screen and the Infotainment System for our YouTube Channel Two Guys And A Ride.

Drivers Information Screen

The Drivers Information Screen has an analogue tach on the left, and analogue speedometer on the right and a smaller digital screen in the middle.  There is an analogue engine temp gauge inside the RPM gauge and an analogue fuel gauge inside the speedometer gauge.

In the middle digital screen you have access to a bunch of different types of information such as Navigation, Audio, and Driver Assistance.

Using the steering wheel buttons on the right side of the steering wheel, you use the left right menu buttons to select the category of info that you want, and then if there are more screens available in any certain category you can scroll through those using the up/down arrows in the same location.

In terms of modern dashboards, this one gives you access to basic pieces of info, but still allows you to turn on and off safety systems, and does give you one page called MFI, where you can see multiple pages of information just by using the up/down buttons on the steering wheel.  You can additionally, customize what shows up in these pages so you can quickly see the info you want to see, without scrolling through 25 pages to find the one you want.

It’s basic but yet very functional, and delivers the information that most drivers wish to see.

The Infotainment System

The screen itself is only 6.5” in size and is quite a bit smaller than what we typically see in modern cars.  It does have dedicated touch buttons on either side of the screen which gives the driver quick access to the main apps like Phone, Radio etc.

The sound system is a Fender Premium Audio system with 9 speakers pushing out 400 watts of power.

It has bluetooth, AM, FM, Sirius XM, Navigation, and wired Apple CarPlay and Wired Android Auto and is 4G LTE Wifi Hotspot capable.

While everything is laid out fairly simply, the Navigation system seemed clunky to me, for instance when I searched for a McDonalds, it found ones that were in a complety different state instead of the ones that were close by to me, and it seemed to take a while to respond to commands.

But overall, I would say that its a basic system, that does the basic stuff you want in an Infotainment system, and for the most part (except Navigation) it all works relatively well.
