2021 Mercedes Benz S550 - How To - Driver’s Information Screen and Infotainment System
The Driver’s Information Screen
The drivers Information Screen is a 12.3” OLED screen and it has changed a bit, from the previous MBUX system. The colors are fantastic, and the response to input from the steering wheel controls is swift. Tons of information can be viewed quite easily, as it is just as easy to manipulate as the system it replaces. What has changed here, is that all of the cool info you could access and see inside the RPM and Speedometer areas is gone. It’s been replaced with different themes you can choose from. Personally I miss the info inside the gauges and I hope they add them back soon. But the system worked great and the ability to have a full screen map was very sweet. There is a neat 3D set of gauges in Sport+ mode and it looks way better in person than it does on camera. Overall, still a great system.
Infotainment System
The Infotainment system is again the OLED screen (12.3”) and has all the expected goodies such as Wireless Apple CarPlay and Wireless Android Auto, Bluetooth, AM/FM/HD/Sirius XM 360L, Navigation, Voice Command and of course the 4G LTE WiFi Hotspot.
The sound system on this particular car was the 16 speaker 3D Burmeister system with 760 watts of power.
One of the interesting features were the ambient lighting. Now the ambient lighting is also part of your Safety Systems. For instance, if the brake warning (emergency) comes on, the front ambient lighting also flashes in red. If your Blind Spot System detects a car, the ambient lights on the door flash as well as the warning light in the mirror. Now thats making great use of ambient lighting.
Another stand out feature was the ability of the seats to be a part of the sound system. Front seats have sensors built in that react with the bass and relay that through the seats, so you really get a more immersed feeling when listening to music.
Over all it was super responsive, well laid out, and because of the large screen, buttons, and text on the screen were all bigger, and easier to see and touch.
