The Driver’s Information Screen
So this brand new SUV from Jeep, combines a little of the old with a little of the new when it comes to the Drivers Screen. The screen is all digital and is about 12” as measured diagonally. The “Old” part which Jeep used in here are what they call the Favorite Menus. There located as is typical on Jeeps at the top center of the screen. There are 9 total pages or Favorites that you can scroll through giving you access to all kinds of information. You can of course customize which Favorites you see, but I like it that all 9 can be shown. The “New” part is two-fold. First the gauges (Speedometer and Tach) can shrink up to give you more center screen for displaying certain items for a larger viewing area, the second is a new button the left side of the steering wheel that looks like three rectangles put together. Pushing this button causes the screen to display a series of rectangular shaped apps that spread out all across the dashboard. There are 5 app buttons that show up total. Each one app represents certain functions or groups of information, and each one can be clicked on, and you can choose what information you want displayed in that rectangle area. It is quite the neat view.
Infotainment Screen
The Infotainment screen is a 12” screen as measured diagonally. It has wireless Apple CarPlay, Wireless Android Auto, AM, FM, Sirius XM and HD Radio, Navigation, and Bluetooth. All the buttons are soft touch or sometimes called capacitive buttons, meaning there is no physical button, just a symbol on the screen or the screens edges that you touch to activate. There is however a physical volume knob along with a Tune and Scroll button.
The sound system is a Macintosh Premium sound system with 19 speakers, a 17 Channel Amplifier which produces 950 watts of power.
On the home screen there are 3 main areas, Top, Middle and Bottom. In the top area you have shortcut icons that you can customize, not only which icons show up, but also their order. In the middle of the screen there are 3 customizable areas, which you can change what you want to see. What you can’t do, is customize the size of the windows that show up. By default, the left window takes up half the screen and the right side windows each take up a quarter of the screen. The bottom portion of the screen contains menu icons for Home, Media, Phone, Navigation, Settings, Apps etc. These apps are also customizable in that you can drag which apps you use most frequently into this area by simply clicking on the apps button and then clicking and dragging the icons down into this area. There are a few off-road pages that are neatly built in and would be useful on an off-road adventure.
The Passenger Screen
The Passenger Screen is also 12” as measure diagonally and has the ability to allow the passenger to hook bluetooth headphones to that particular screen, so driver and passenger can listen to different sources at the same time. The passenger can suggest Navigation points or Radio stations to the Driver, and they can choose to accept or reject them. The interesting thing about the screen is that if the passenger is not logged in via a different profile than the driver, then any Navigation commands or Media suggestions become instant commands. For instance if the passenger selects a way point in Navigation (say a restaurant) and sends it to the driver, the Navigation automatically re-routes to this way point, whereas if the passenger is logged into a different profile than the driver, then those Navigation commands are sent the center screen as a suggestion, and then the driver can choose to accept or ignore them. The passenger can also play videos on their screen should they want to watch a movie while traveling.
Overall, a pretty amazing system, with lots and lots of customizing available.
