1970 Dodge Super Bee /// 21k miles unrestored

SOLD Mecum Auctions Kissimmee 2022 - $110,000

For many interested buyers, the combination being offered with this 1970 Dodge Super Bee will be considered special. This Super Bee is a desirable classic muscle car, unrestored with

two broadcast sheets and a window sticker for provenance, and a total of 21,058 miles

since new. Most importantly, this Dodge attained to ZZenith status by Bloomington judged

survivor standards, only presented to cars that are a minimum of 40 years old and show

less than 10% deterioration and alterations from when they were first built.

Purchased new on July 17, 1970 at Pyramid Motors in Portland, Ohio, this 1970 Super Bee

is representative of the final year this car was based on the Coronet platform, featuring an

unmistakable twin bumper-grille design that lasted just one model season. This would also

be Coronet’s final year as a two-door offering, as Dodge moved all B-body performance

packages to the Charger for 1971. Underneath the special Super Bee hood design is the

383 CI Magnum V-8 big-block engine, a 335 HP version with a 4-barrel carburetor, dual-

snorkel air cleaner, electronic ignition and dual exhaust. This is backed by the Chrysler

TorqueFlite automatic transmission and an 8.75-inch differential, and power disc front

brakes and power steering were also part of the enjoyment.

This Super Bee’s factory-applied, original enamel has been metered, and this car came in

extra cost High Impact FC7 Plum Crazy paint, beautifully accented here with the V6X

longitudinal tape stripe in black with a centered Super Bee logo rear-quarter decaling. This

car received a matched black vinyl top and black interior, which, unlike many budget

examples, came with premium equipment like bucket seats, a C16 center console with floor

shifter, AM radio and wood-grain applique trim. The final touches here are the Rallye wheels

and Goodyear Polyglas F70-14 raised white-letter tires. Sold with a car cover, warranty

booklet, spare keys and vintage photos, there may be another ‘Bee like this out there, but

it’s doubtful. For those seeking documented and award-winning OEM provenance in an

aggressive final-year body release, this Super Bee is it.
